The Sishen Iron Ore Mine is situated 49 kilometres west of Kuruman in the Northern Cape. The contract commenced in April 2006 and runs until December 2017. The contract scope includes removal of 50 million tons of waste material per annum.

The client is Anglo American Kumba Resources Limited who has been mining at Sishen for 60 years. The remaining reserve should last another 30 years. The Sishen mine is the third largest iron ore open pit mine in the world and produces 30 million tons of high quality iron ore per annum.

Aveng Moolmans employs just over 400 people on site, most of whom were recruited from the surrounding area.

The waste is loaded by 4 x 500 ton excavators and 1 x 320 ton excavators and hauled in 100 and 190 ton capacity trucks.
